Bi-District Playoff:
The Wakeland Football Wolverines (5-3, 3-2) are now only one win away from another playoff spot as they beat Carrollton Creekview Mustangs, 45-19. Wakeland bounced back strong (from last week’s close loss) to take control early in the game and never looked back. With two regular season games to go, the Wolverines need only one win to get in and are primed to face Frisco Liberty next week and secure a chance to play Week 11.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Or in Wakeland’s case, when the going gets tough, the Wolverine Defense gets going. The Newman Smith Trojans had the ball only two times in the fourth quarter, once for a 6 play drive and late in the game for 12 plays and both times the Wakeland Defense killed the drive and helped preserve the win for the Wolverines. The Wakeland Wolverines (3-2, 2-1) got their first 9-4A District win this year against the Newman Smith Trojans (0-5, 0-2) by a score of 38-24.

A 4th quarter Wakeland on-side kick recovery gave the Wolverines the ball on their own 46 yard line. Then 10 plays later, Zack Paul lined up to attempt the 32 yard field goal to tie the game only to have a Frisco player come around the end and block the attempt.

It wasn’t the two hours of much needed hard rain, it was the lightening that caused the Friday night game to be postponed till Saturday morning at TCA’s Tom Landry Stadium. Just after warming up on Friday night, the Officials made both teams leave the field due to lightening in the area. By 8:45 pm and no let up in sight, both teams agreed they still wanted to play the game, so they scheduled it for this morning at 11:00 am.
Flawless execution on offensive and a relentless defense gave the Wakeland Wolverines (1-1) a 70-26 win against a veteran 4-4A Wichita Falls (0-3) Coyote team. The Wolverines bounced back from a close heart-breaker last week and showed the Coyotes a powerful balanced attack that produced 42 points in the first half and over 600 yards of total offense for the game.
